Grau has been in the field of software and system development for 18 years, starting from basic writing source code in more then 5 programming languages and technologies including Java and Microsoft .NET. His career path covered technology scout, architect, project lead to the definition of systems and development processes to create these systems.

Throughout his professional career, Grau also gave much attention to transfer of knowledge in the form of coaching and training. When he was CEO to a software consulting company between 2000 and 2004, Grau also served as adjunct professor in Software Engineering at the International University in Bruchsal. He started managing the Education Centre of Zühlke in 2004 and build up the focus group for Requirements Engineering.
